A follow-up meeting between the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Academic Staff Union of Universities has been scheduled for September 6, 2024.

This new date was disclosed by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman on Wednesday, August 28, after a two-hour meeting between the two parties at the Federal Ministry of Education.

Recall that members of ASUU had threatened to embark on strike action after the union’s National Executive Council Meeting held on 19 August, 2024.

The Union members and leadership had accused the Nigerian government of failing to honour the 2009 renegotiated agreement.

However, the FG through Mamman said that most of the issues under contention in the agreement dated as far back as 1981.

However, noting that FG had sent out letters to ASUU and other relevant organizations on the matter, the Minister urged the Union leaders to be considerate and open-minded in their negotiations.
