Awaade of Lagos Completes 120-Hour individual Theatreton Attempt

In Nigeria’s Cross River State, Awade Jacob Awade, known as Awaade of Lagos and a graduate of Theatre and Media Studies from the University of Calabar, has embarked on an ambitious journey to break the world record for the longest monologue. The current record stands at 110 hours and 46 minutes, set by Adrian Hilton in 1987, who recited the complete works of Shakespeare in London.

Awaade of Lagos began his “Theatre-thon” on March 28th, 2025, with the goal of reaching an unprecedented 120 hours by April 2nd, 2025. This endeavor is seen as a significant event with the potential to inspire young people.

The initial stages of his theatrical marathon were met with typical challenges related to logistics and technical issues often faced in developing countries. However, Awaade of Lagos has demonstrated remarkable resilience and determination, pushing through these obstacles. Having already surpassed 119 hours, his performance continues with unwavering energy.

His courage and skill highlight the power of mental fortitude in overcoming adversity, inspiring aspiring individuals. Furthermore, Awaade of Lagos aims to underscore the importance of theatre in society, aligning with his vision as an agent of change.
