Charly Boy, the veteran singer and social activist known for his outspoken views, declared that he no longer holds respect for Nobel Laureate Prof Wole Soyinka. This statement came in response to the renaming of the National Arts Theatre in Lagos after Soyinka, announced by President Bola Tinubu in honour of the playwright’s 90th birthday.

Charly Boy, a vocal critic of Tinubu, expressed strong dissent over the decision, lamenting what he perceives as a decline in the stature of revered figures.

Charly Boy in his post, opposed the move, saying the “Mighty have fallen, for beans”

He wrote, “Uncle WOLE I henceforth withdraw all the respect I once had for you.

“When late Jimmy Johnson talked about you in the 90s, I thought he was only yabbying you.

“Wow! How some of our MIGHTYs have fallen, for beans, ewa, dodo, is it for rice’?
