Democrat Lost US Presidency For Biden-Pelusi
Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has blamed President Joe Biden for the Democratic Party’s loss in the 2024 presidential election.
According to Vanguard, Pelosi argued that Democrats might have had a better chance if Biden had exited the race earlier, allowing for a more competitive primary.
“Had the president gotten out sooner, there may have been other candidates in the race,” she said, suggesting that a delay in his withdrawal harmed the party’s prospects.
Biden, facing mounting pressure after a poor debate performance against Donald Trump, ultimately dropped out at the end of July.
He endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor, but she went on to suffer a decisive defeat in the election.
Pelosi, who was re-elected to her 20th term in the House, expressed regret over the missed opportunity for an open primary, which could have included other Democratic contenders.
In hindsight, Pelosi believed Harris would have been stronger if given the chance to compete in a primary.
She stated, “If the president had stepped aside earlier, it would have been different.”
Harris’ aides also shared similar sentiments, blaming Biden for the loss. One aide remarked, “Joe Biden is the singular reason Kamala Harris and Democrats lost tonight.”
The Democratic Party now grapples with the aftermath of losing the White House and potentially both chambers of Congress, as internal blame continues to mount.
