FRSC Calls For Intensive Media Partnership

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Cross River State Sector has called for a strong synergy with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Cross River State Chapter to foster road safety awareness and compliance in Cross River State.

The Cross River State Sector Commander of the Corps, CC Joseph W. Toby, made the request on Tuesday 11th of March, 2025 during a courtesy visit to the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Archibong Bassey, at the Ernest Bassey Press Centre Calabar.

Speaking during the visit, Toby stated that the role of the media in disseminating accurate information on road safety cannot be overemphasized, highlighting the Corps’ ongoing efforts to reduce road crashes with  outlined initiatives for enhanced traffic management which are. These initiatives includes crackdown on fake and illegal number plates and the promotion of the FRSC mobile app. 

He also stated that the FRSC’s corporate strategic goals for 2025 include a 10% reduction in road traffic injuries and fatalities, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope agenda and the Sweetness Agenda of the people first Governor,  Prince Bassey Edet Otu. In his words 

“The FRSC is committed to making Nigerian roads safer. To achieve this, we deploy strategic tools, including public enlightenment, technological advancements, road audits, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations,” Toby stated.

The Sector Commander also charged journalists to support the FRSC’s mission by providing accurate reports that enhance public awareness and reduce misinformation. He says

“The role of the media cannot be over emphasized in the quest of the FRSC to successfully deliver on it’s mandate. This is is because the activities of the media, as coordinated by the NUJ has the power to reach more persons through print and electronic means, with the right information from the FRSC to eliminate issues related to misinformation. 

“Therefore, adequate information disseminated to the motoring public on trending Road safety issues such as the clamp down on fake and illegal number plate, an ongoing nation wide excercise as well as the FRSC mobile App which every road user should have is desired of the media to secure greater publicity and eventually compliance” he noted. 

Responding to the appeal from FRSC Sector Commander, NUJ Chairman Cross River Council, Archibong Bassey reaffirmed the union’s longstanding partnership with the FRSC, pledging continues cooperation to improve road safety.

“For a better Cross River and Nigeria, stronger cooperation between the media and the FRSC is essential,” she said. 

This move is essential and timely as serves a wakeup call on road users to be mindful of new road developments occasioned by renovations.

Meanwhile, as Christian’s faithful prepares for Easter celebration, symbolism of Christ death, commuters are expected to abide by road regulations as supervised by the FRSC to mark the sacred season in peace of body and soul with family and friends.
