The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully elected its council chairmanship candidates in 17 local government areas (LGAs) across the state. The election process was praised by Governor Peter Mbah, who commended the party for its democratic approach.

“I am pleased to see the PDP in Enugu State conduct these council chairmanship elections transparently and inclusively,” said Governor Mbah. “This is a testament to our commitment to grassroots democracy and the empowerment of our people at the local level.”

The elections, which took place over the weekend, saw the emergence of various candidates who will now represent the PDP in the upcoming local government elections. The party’s state chairman, Augustine Nnamani, expressed confidence in the newly elected candidates and their ability to deliver on the party’s mandate.

However, there are claims about irregularities and alleged voter suppression. “We have received reports of various irregularities and instances where our supporters were prevented from participating in the electoral process,” Sumaila stated. “We will be exploring all legal avenues to address these issues and ensure the will of the people is upheld.”

Governor Mbah has dismissed these claims, stating that the elections were conducted by the party’s constitution and in line with democratic principles. “We have always been committed to free, fair, and credible elections, and the council chairmanship elections in Enugu State are no exception,” Mbah said. “Any claims of irregularities or voter suppression will be thoroughly investigated and addressed accordingly.”

The newly elected council chairmanship candidates are now set to represent the PDP in the upcoming local government elections, which are scheduled to take place in the coming months. The party leadership has expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on the party’s manifesto and address the pressing needs of their respective communities.
