Gov Otu’s Intervention Transforms Ogoja College of Nursing – Coco-Bassey Esu
The Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, has assured the management of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ogoja, of continued infrastructural development under the administration of His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu. This initiative aims to align the college with the standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) while positioning it to compete with institutions globally.
Speaking during a visit to the college, Mr. Coco-Bassey stated
“His Excellency has provided the necessary funds to upgrade the institution from a School of Nursing to a College of Nursing. What I see here is impressive, and His Excellency is committed to doing even more by introducing additional programs. His administration prioritizes the infrastructural development of all nursing colleges in the state.”
Previously, hopes for upgrading the school were uncertain. However, through concerted efforts, this goal has been realized. The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has approved the college’s National Diploma (ND) program, while the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has accredited its nursing programs, ensuring long-term sustainability.
The Provost of the College of Nursing, Ogoja, Dr. (Mrs.) Ohora Enyieko, expressed her excitement and gratitude for the governor’s intervention. She stated
“The Governor has come to our aid. This institution was almost forgotten, with no government presence. But today, thanks to Governor Otu, there is a renewed sense of hope. We are deeply grateful to him. He has given us a new lease on life, and we will not disappoint him.”
During the visit, the Special Assistant toured the college, accompanied by its principal officers, to assess ongoing and completed projects.
