A woman who was said to have used a pestle to kill her husband and went ahead to dump his body inside the bush has been arrested by men of the Niger State Police Command, the command announced in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, 6 January, 2025.

The state police command announced the arrest on its Facebook wall on Monday evening, saying the woman, whose name was given as Fatima Dzuma, aged 27 years, was arrested by the operatives attached to the Katchia Divisional Headquarters of the command.

According to the command, the woman had an altercation with her husband, Baba Aliyu, aged 25 years, and the man was said to have beaten her in the night. However, when the husband was asleep, she reportedly used a pestle to hit him in the head. He was said to have died in the process.

Following the husband’s death, the woman was said to have tied his body with clothes and rope and then rolled the corpse inside a nearby bush with a mat.

However, some passers-by were said to have seen the man’s body in the bush and alerted the police. Policemen thereafter visited the bush where the body was identified to be that of her husband. The command wrote:

“The victim’s wife narrated that there was an altercation between them over the night and she was beaten by her husband.

“As a result, after a while when the husband was asleep, she used a pestle to strike him in the head which led to his death. She later tied the deceased with clothes and rope and rolled the corpse inside a nearby bush with a mat.

“The corpse was taken to General Hospital, Bida, for post-mortem while the woman was taken into custody. She has been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Minna, for further investigation and prosecution.”
