Man Set Ablaze On Cross Over Night For Alleged Theft Of 25,000 Jean
A tragic incident happened in Imo State, involving a 35-year-old man named Chima Okafor. He was reportedly set on fire by a relative, Obinna Obiekea, and others over jeans valued at N25,000.
According to Sahara Reporters, the event took place during a New Year’s Eve service at a church in Nnebugwu, Oguta LGA. Chima was taken from the church, suffered serious burns, and eventually died from his injuries.
Chima’s father, Uche Okafor, stated that while his son was attending a crossover night church service, Obiekea and his family members pulled him outside, accused him of stealing jeans, and then set him on fire.
After the incident, police apprehended Obiekea and his son, Chidubem. Meanwhile, Obiekea’s wife, Nwamaka, and another son, Eloka, are currently evading arrest.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) is now in charge of investigating the case further.
Chima’s father has reached out to the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, seeking justice for his son’s tragic death.
