MUCH ADO ABOUT SEN ETENG WILLIAM ‘REPRESENTATION’

Central Senatorial District in Cross River State is one of Nigeria’s most underdeveloped District in terms of human capital and infrastructural developments.
The region despite her mass natural and cultural endowments has remained mismanaged by a few Oligarchies.
Since advent of the fourth Republic in 1999, this District has produced a Governor, a deputy Governor, five successive Senators, numerous Rep Members, House of Assembly Members, Council Chairmen, Councilors and Appointees of government.
What each of these leaders has to bear in this region plagued with bad roads network, poor schools, zero access to pipe bone water, underfunded health sector, agricultural inefficiency, gross darkness, mass unemployment among other exponents of socioeconomic and political backwardness is story for another day.
Fast-paced to Sen. Eteng Jonah William’s regime from 13 June 2023 till date, constituents of Central Senatorial District extraction who had craved for a flying senator with the wings of an Eagle to assuage her plethora of challenges are met with delayed expectations, underscoring stones currently thrown at the ‘glass-house’.
Amidst the shortfall on expectations, many describes the Mkpani born Lawmaker with series of uncanny and unprintable names, highlighting the importance of living to expectations when saddled with responsibility.
While these public outbursts are considered genuine in seeking accountability, a poignant for probity of public officials, most of the outbursts however fall short of constructive critical nuances.
In other words, personality attacks are forms of vindictiveness on the Senator with little or no considerations given his achievements despite also been described as a ‘snail’ movement.
Importantly is the fact that he has made impact.
The appropriate thing to do in navigating the ugly tide is to hold all elected office holders especially accountable for mismanaging the common patrimony entrusted on them.
Other political activists advocates that should proposed mandatory call for scorecard presentation fails to yield desired outcome, boycotting elections as mark of peaceful protest against a dysfunctional system becomes inevitable in sparking the magic wand of returning power to the masses.
It’s also a truism that such civil protests will not make the heaven fall.
Should heaven fall, everyone will seize the opportunity to see God, His Angels and golden city.
For the embattled Senator, recall that the age of Methuselah has nothing to do with the wisdom of Solomon.
That said, Sen. Eteng should redouble strides with the almost two years left from his first tenure.
He should concentrate on building bridges across divides by way of job placements, empowerments and general attraction of democratic dividends to rurals.
After all, what is good for the goose is equally good for the gander.
