The Federal Government is set to commit to the National an Executive Bill on agreed New National Minimum Wage on Tuesday, next week following a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and labour leaders on Thursday at the Aso Presidential Villa in Abuja, establishing ₦70,000 as the new minimum wage, replacing previous ₦30,000, which expired on April 18, 2024.

Joe Ajaero, President, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and Festus Osifo, President Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), were in attendance to represent interests of their constituents.

Their discussions with President Tinubu concluded with a consensus on the increased wage, aiming to provide better remuneration for Nigerian workers amidst rising living costs.

Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed to Press that the executive Bill would be presented to the lawmakers by next week Tuesday. He said enthusiastically

“The Minimum wage Bill will reach the National Assembly by Tuesday. He (President Tinubu) told labour in the meeting that it will be ready by Tuesday.”

This legislative move is intended to give New Wage Bill legal backing to commence implementation nationwide. Tinubu while approving the New Minimum Wage promised to review policy every three years.
