Nigeria Warns Citizens to Avoid Travel to UK Amid Violent Unrest

Nigeria’s federal government has issued a travel alert urging citizens to exercise caution when visiting the United Kingdom, following a surge of violent unrest in the country.

In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Amb. Eche Abu-Obe, cited the recent riots and attacks targeting immigrants, law enforcement, and infrastructure across England.

“There is an increased risk of violence and disorder occasioned by the recent riots in the UK, stemming from the killing of 3 young girls at a concert,” the travel advisory reads. “The violence has assumed dangerous proportions as evidenced by reported attacks on Law enforcement agents and damage to infrastructure.”

The government advised Nigerians planning to travel to the UK to avoid political gatherings, protests, rallies, and crowded areas. Citizens were also urged to remain vigilant and self-aware at all times and to contact the Nigerian High Commission in the UK if they have any information that could be of interest.

The unrest in the UK has been ongoing for several weeks, with mobs of masked individuals staging anti-immigrant demonstrations and clashing with the police. The situation has escalated since the recent killing of three young girls at a concert, which has further inflamed tensions.
