One Dead, Two Injured In Calabar, As Police Officer Opens Fire

Unfortunate scene occurred in Calabar as one person has been confirmed dead this morning following sporadic shooting by an unidentified police Inspector at Atakpa police station, along Watt market, Calabar.

This sad incident took place early Sunday morning as confirmed by the  state Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo 

According to the Public Relations Officer of Police, Irene Ugbo, the police officer had just returned from his night beat and instead of dropping his rifle, he began to misbehave causing a scene around the station and in an attempt by his fellow officer to hold him, he began shooting in the air. 

“The said inspector came back from beat last night, he was supposed to drop his riffle then book and leave the station but all of a sudden he started misbehaving talking anyhow so they tried to calm him down. 

“He just took the riffle started shooting sporadically and that is how the bullets met three persons one is confirmed dead while two is receiving treatment” Irenesaid

She however reported that the situation is currently under control as they are currently at the scene calming the situation so as avoid a law disorder situation as youths of the vicinity threaten to burn down the police station, and the said inspector has been arrested and taken to custody.

“That’s where we are right now we are on ground, trying to make sure the area is calm.

“The said inspector has been arrested, he is in our custody right now, the AIG is here.

“We are here because the youths of this vicinity tried to burn down the police station, the AIG zone six is here, all police men are here, the mobile are here to make sure that the area is calm”. She said
