VisionPro Goes Global: Apple Announces International Sales, Hints at VisionOS 2 Update

Apple is set to commence international sales and shipment of its highly coveted spatial computer the VisionPro headset, beginning 13th June, it will start taking pre-orders in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Singapore, while shipment of the headsets will commence on 28th June. While pre-orders in Canada, Australia, France, Germany and the United Kingdom will commence on 28th June, with delivery set to commence on 12th July.

Details about international pricing for the headset are still not certain, but it’s more likely to sell at the same rate it sells in US $3,500.

VisionOS 2 to launch with Exciting New Features 

Apple announced the beta release of its VisionOS to developers during WWDC 2024, with exciting new features to be anticipated.

Some of the new features that will be coming when the New Os is released are: 

1. SharePlay supports the PhotoApp, to enable users to view traditional photos, panoramas and spatial videos as spatial personas.
2. Improved Mac Virtual Display, this is bringing a higher resolution and format that includes ultra-wide curved display options that equal two 4K displays.
3. Conversion of “Flat” photos in the PhotoApp into spatial photos using Machine Learning.
4. Support for Magic Mouse and Magic keyboard that will be visible in a fully immersive environment.
5. Support for AirPlay to provide support for live streaming from iPhone, Mac or iPad to VisionPro.
6. Customizable Home View to enable rearrangement of apps in any Order.
7. Travel Mode compatibility to train and air travel.
8. New hand gestures Support for easy navigation (Launch Home view, Control centre) and display vital information.
9. An improved guest mode, among other exciting features, is expected with the coming update to the OS.

Meanwhile, Apple revealed the availability of over 2,000 native apps for the VisionPro and 1.5 Million apps compatible with both iOS and iPad. They also unveiled a set of new APIs and Frameworks designed to accelerate and extend App development for VisionPro.

TabletopKit will enable the creation of spatial apps that can be anchored on flat surfaces, and tables and shared with spatial personas.

Enterprise  APIs enable new enterprise App use cases, while the Volumetric API will allow multiple complex 3D apps to run smoothly at the same time.

The release of the VisionOs 2 is expected to come as a free update in the Fall of 2024.
