C’River Assembly Calls On NEWMAP To Reclaim Gully Erosion Site In Calabar South

The Cross River State House of Assembly has called on the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) to arrest a Gully erosion permeating Ekenyong community in Calabar South local government area.
Sponsor of the motion, Hon. Victor Nsa, Member Calabar South 2 Constituency added that the gully erosions have alienated constituents from partaking in democratic dividends over time, therefore calling on the government’s urgent intervention.
Hon. Nsa added that the situation is most worrisome as constituents are plagued with zero access roads to their community despite her high voting strengths during elections.
The Calabar South 2 Lawmaker prayed the administration of Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu to again write her name in gold by addressing the gully erosions and other social amenities alluding to the people.
Meanwhile, speaking after on a spot visit to the site, the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem employed residents of Ekenyong to keep alive with the current administration of Sen. Bassey Otu who is poised to change the fortunes of Cross Riverians with her people-first policies. He says
“This House is committed to serving the people better, whatever is plaguing this community is equally plaguing the House of Assembly.
“The House have resolved to come to the site to see for itself the problem facing this community.
We assure you of speaking with the Executive Governor for urgent intervention like we did during our visit to Nassarawa Bakoko which has witnessed transformation thereafter.” The Speaker summarized.
Also speaking, the village head of Ekeyang community, Chief Austin David appealed to the state government to rise to the occasion in fostering even development in his domain.
He applauded the leadership of the Assembly for prompt response to the plights of Ekenyong dwellers.
The community leader noted that despite communal efforts, not much is achieved in ameliorating the sufferings.
