Nursing Excellence: Ogoja General Hospital Sets New Standards – Coco-Bassey Esu

The Special Assistant to the Governor on Nursing, Mr. Coco-Bassey Esu, recently visited the General Hospital, Ogoja, to assess nursing performance and student training. He commended the high standards of nursing practice and assured the hospital’s management of Governor Sen. Prince Bassey Otu’s commitment to transforming the facility into a state-of-the-art training institution.

“As part of this effort, the Governor has lifted the embargo on staff employment and has initiated the process of upgrading the School of Nursing in Ogoja to a College of Nursing Sciences, complete with necessary infrastructure,” Esu stated.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to best practices in nursing training, including the use of procedure manuals, nursing care plans, and WHO-recommended pantographs. He also highlighted the need for regular seminars and training programs to keep staff and students updated on advancements in healthcare.

The Provost of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ogoja, Dr. Ohora Enyieko, commended the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Ugbe Christopher for his dedication to nursing education and practice.

“Your commitment to excellence is evident in the high standards of nursing practice and training at General Hospital, Ogoja.

“We look forward to continued collaboration in producing well-trained and competent nurses.” she said.

Dr. Ugbe Christopher expressed appreciation for the Governor’s support, stating

“We are committed to providing a conducive learning environment and delivering high-quality patient care. With the Governor’s backing, we will continue striving for excellence and making General Hospital, Ogoja, a model for nursing education and practice.”

The Medical Superintendent, alongside the Heads of Nursing from various wards, took the Special Assistant and his entourage on a tour of the facility.
